Hall Happenings

A Look at Upcoming Events & Meetings

January 2015Grange LocationGrange Hall:  6000 Sebastopol Ave, Hwy 12

You DO NOT need to be a farmer, to become a member or to participate in grange activities.  It is for anyone interested in rebuilding local community and connections.

Time to take care of the paperwork ~  It’s time to submit your annual dues… as in less than $3/month, an awesome deal ~$33/person; $66/family. See a new feature we just added to the website: ONLINE PAY!!!

In the header (at the top of the page), you should see “Dues”… we set up an online pay feature via PayPal. No charge, on your end, to do this. It greatly simplifies the business work for our volunteer crew (so we absorb the small fee PayPal charges).  Check it off your list, ASAP!

Lots of little details changes

in our Monthly Schedule

Girls Nite Out on HOLD

*Tuesday’s Women’s Nite Out

~ on hold during the winter months, basically has been cancelled until we announce the resumption of our meetings. We are having some scheduling conflicts and the grange hall needs to move their business meeting to the 3rd Tuesday.

BUT, we can still get together & visit… even venture out to setup a lunch!

~ Jan 6th

Farmers-Guild-Logo-rooster*The Farmers’ Guild continues to meet the 1st Tuesday of the Month; Potluck at 6pm with meeting to follow. A special topic announced each month.

~ Jan 18th Site Planning Meeting, 12:30-4pm

layout plan

*2nd Site Planning Meeting, all members invited, Jan 18th, Sun 12:30 – 4pm

Get involved with the actual “nuts & bolts” (i.e. hammer, shovel, & visioning). Lots of ideas and suggestions came out of the first meeting and I think the plan is to try and refine it all down to a framework we can use.  You are welcome to come and participate even if you did not come to the first meeting.

~ Jan 20th, The Grange Business Meeting

has moved to the 3rdgrange-logo.160x160 Tuesday of the Month, members only, 6-7:30pm, Jan 20th,  to accommodate officers that could not attend the 2nd Tuesday.

The Ladies Group has graciously given up their spot to the business meeting folks (many of which are the same so it’s hard to be in two places at one time!)

~ Jan 21st Vital Alchemy

*Vital Alchemy, the Fermentation Group has moved to the 3rd Wednesday of the Month, open to all & free.

7-8:30pm, Jan 21st.

From Jennifer Harris, group leader: This group is starting it’s second year of monthly meetings and we are excited for more delicious experiments in 2015.

Our group is always free to join, but often there is a donation requested for hands-on projects if you’d like to take some home. In January we’ll be discussing the similarities and differences between Kombucha and Water Kefir.

There will be starter cultures available to take home. Feel free to contact Jennifer at Wildworldoffood@gmail.com with questions, class topic requests or to join an email list specifically for this group.

A lunch at noon ($7.00) follows the meeting. This meeting is open to all Members, 4th Step & above. (do you know what you are at??? ask the president of the grange).

Assistance in staging the preparations for the physical setup and for the meal, are requested! Help is needed in setting up the hall (around 9:30am). Nancy Cadigan has volunteered to shop/prep on the 23rd.  We need at least 3 people to assist on Saturday, in putting the meal together & on the table.  RSVP to Nancy if you can help (mcgreenandnancy@yahoo.com).

Potluck Dinner is ON!

Want to connect on an even more significant level?  Try the kitchen! It’s fun to help out and you get to know other grangers on a personal level.

A Side Note

Brothers & Sisters,

My apologies for the delayed updating on the calendar.  I’m about a month behind where I wanted to be with the updating of our new website.

Our website was hacked several times in the last few months so Linton Hale graciously worked hard behind the scenes to move the website to a new location and to go through the code with a fine-toothed comb to find the sneaky hidden hacks that kept popping up. Although the appearance, at this point, may not look much different, it will in the coming few months.

We are working on creating a website that is a useful place to check out, besides our basic information:

  • a blog section so that we can discuss issues or concerns, and
  • links to pertinent information.
  • We’d like to share pictures of things we have done and events we have sponsored.
  • Put together a “classified section” so that if you have something to share, trade, or sell… you can post it.
  • A member directory has been requested as well.  I know if I had a choice I’d probably want to support another grange member’s business rather than corporate america.
  • Private, members only, information section

If there are other things you would like to see, please send me an email with any suggestions. There is a form below to make it quick and easy.

Time to Contribute

I’m also looking for other people to assist with the website information.

We have someone who can handle most of the backend of the website, but I think it is important for many members to contribute to the information actually provided on our site.  That information area will be expanding (come hell or high water!) I mean, that is part of our focus, isn’t it… to share?

Please shoot me an email if you can contribute basically, a blog posting, on some subject that would be relevant to grange members. That’s a pretty broad field, so no excuses, there is something that I’m betting everyone can share with others.  Remember, it’s important to mentor to others, in what ever way we can. Don’t be surprised if I send YOU an email requesting some info on a particular topic… I know we have a cornucopia of experts and writers among our members.
